Leftism
Our goal is to be the one stop shop for leftism here at lemmy.world! We welcome anyone with beliefs ranging from SocDemocracy to Anarchism to post, discuss, and interact with our community. We are a democratic community, and as such, welcome metaposts that seek to amend the rules through consensus. Post articles, videos, questions, analysis and more. As long as it's leftist, it's welcome here!
Rules:
- Absolutely no fascism, right wing extremism, genocide denial, etc.
- Unconditional support of authoritarians will not be tolerated
- Good faith discussion about ideologies is encouraged, but no sectarianism
- No brocialism/sexism
- No ableism
- No TERFs/ anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric
- No racism
- No trolling
- No insults, dunking, or personal attacks
- No posting of misinformation, disinformation, or fake news
- Mods have final say
Posting Expectations:
- Comics/memes/shitposts/propaganda are only allowed on weekends
- Try to avoid liberalism unless discussing electoral politics. Even then, try to focus on tactical agreement towards leftist goals
- Only one meta post seeking consensus per person per day
- Posts about a particular ideology are ok, but remember the rules above
- Remember that there is no “right way” to implement leftist theory. This rule does not prevent academic criticism.
- Try to avoid extremely sensitive topics unless approaching them with appropriate care for intersectionality. Use your best judgement, and be prepared to provide respectable sources when having these discussions. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source in these cases.
- Post titles must be meaningful and relevant, except on weekends

I think for all intents and purposes, I am. I believe we need to look out for one another. I believe in the commonality of the human experience and that we can all get what we want if we work together, leave ego behind, and think of others as an extension of ourselves. And we need to help eachother achieve that perspective.
you seem at least centre left, and respectable to say the least.
Well thank you. Same to you. (I'm definitely not right, that is for sure)...I suppose I'm some flavor of anarchist with a ground in leftism for the sake of modern politics...or smth lol.
I respect anarchists, and agree with them on many things.
Yea for sure. It seems a mix of left, anarchism, and autonomy would be the perfect solution, buy sadly that is just never gonna happen...right now at least. I'd like to think that we are just slowly advancing towards it by having these discussions. I was always more a big picture person. I've only recently "activated" in my old, long held, political ideals after a run in with the American criminal justice system, poverty, and addiction and I'm konda figuring out where my ideals truly fit by interacting with my peers. I find that most people on here are at least somewhat intellectual in nature, and I like that.
that sounds like libertarian socialism to me.
Hmm. I dunno tbh. I've never even heard that before iirc. So..is that bad? Lol
no, its very good, look it up.
I just looked at the wiki. That checks out for me for sure. I'd have to do a bit of a deeper dive to get a feel for Marxism, but overall the description sounds spot on. Thanks for pointing the way.
Be sure to read up on it.
Oh i really like it actually, from the little I read. Particulary:
And
I think we are at an inflection point where technology and how we interact at a societal and class level, just makes zero sense...if it ever did.
glad to see that we have gained a libertarian socialist, i hope you become a regular user of this community.
If you could pick one book to recommend, what would it be? I'm very much into philosophy, anthropology, etc. If you wouldn't mind giving me your "must read" book when it comes to leftist thought, something that is inherently critical of itself, id be much obliged. Hell I may even have it in my library lol
i would recommend the communist manifesto, because it is good to read such a historically significant foundational text.
I definitely have that one, haven't read it in a maybe 16 years. Gimme something else, your personal favorite. (Not that I won't re read that one)
I dont have a singular book the recommend you honestly.
Well that's OK. I will just read them all (:
lol
