You can stop the page from loading before it finishes loading. Unfortunately not much other solutions for the moment. I personally use the "Subscribed" sort to only see posts from my subscribed communities. Which usually cuts down on rapid fire loading in of New posts. But it depends on how you sort too.
I believe the devs are working on solutions to this. Bear in mind this isn't a major corporation with dedicated full time teams of software developers and engineers at their disposal. This is all being done by a few dedicated people that were not anticipating the levels of daily users that Lemmy has started to see. Its going to take them some time to adjust to changing conditions and user feature requests.
