I've always been a lurker, but now seeing lemmy's growth, I figured I would like to contribute somehow.

Would becoming a mod be a good way to do it? How? What does it take to be a good mod?

Depends a lot on the community I think. If it is a small community about something quite benign such as gardening, I doubt you have to do much. Post up the rules and intro and try to post regularly to get things off the ground. If it’s a large community about News or politics I imagine there is plenty to do and a fair bit of agro. You can always ask the community for another mod to help you if it starts to get too much
