Normally you could blame it on bad luck, small market franchise, or mismanagement, but this one is has more nuance.

Dame wants to win a title now. Portland used their #3 pick to draft Scoot instead of trading it to get him some help. So he told the FO that he wants to be traded to a contender, specifically Miami. However, the Heat didn't really have much to offer in exchange so here we are.
