This is why my TV is not connected to any kind of network. It is a TV, and it should behave as one and just take any video input I give it
Exactly that. I've got it plugged into a Nvidia Shield that's on my network, streaming stuff from my local NAS and various online sources. My router blocks known ad networks, and all apps I install on the Shield are vetted to maximise privacy.
Some TVs have firmware updates that improve or downright add important features. These updates only take place by connecting to the network.
Bought mine in 2017. It has never even come close to smelling the sweet, sweet nectar of internet access
Can you give an example of an important feature that was added later in a TV's lifecycle?
My added VRR (variable refresh rate) about a year later.
