I think it's sort of perspective. The map is 3d; so while the systems may look overlapping, in space, you have to take a different route.
It definitely isn't just "shortest route via visual", but once you discover that system holding you up, you can then just travel through it next time without stopping.
I really wish the game would let you rotate the map in 3 dimensions. Hopefully we'll get a mod. (While we're at it, a takeoff & landing + "moon rover" vehicle mod would be nice.)
it does, doesn't it? I can't check it right now but I'm certain I can rotate all directions (on Xbox with controller).
There is limited rotation in the planetary map, and none at all on the surface map. Maybe that's what they are referring to? Though rotating the surface map seems unnecessary because the terrain shown on the map does not match what is actually in-world.
In this case, I was going back to New Atlantis from Sol, and instead of just going straight there, it wanted to stop at Bernard's Star first. I have been going back and forth between these a bit before no problem until now, after upgrading my jump drives.
That may have changed your ship weight and done something to the available paths; did your LY travel distance change?
At any rate, I've never had it purposefully stop me somewhere more than the one time to "discover" the location, so it should at worst be extremely temporary.
It changed both, but the LY jump distance went UP.
It's not much of a stoppage, true. But when I shouldn't have to even go through one of those systems it's a bit annoying. Just another load screen in the way. Already have plans to do what I always do when the toolset is released and move a bunch of the FT markers to limit load screens.
