I got a brick set (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by soollik to c/[email protected]

This set is not the cheapest brick set you can get and is not FIDE approved, but I got it because I wanted vintage (resists moisture even after 80 years) and wanted a set that still feels valuable. A Sayer & Fisher (omg a chess reference) Company's initials engraved on the bricks was a plus.

Overall I like the set, most astonishing is that when I invite my friends to play chess and they decline en passant, thinking that I do not own a brick, I get to flex with my sick ass collection of antique and vintage 4.5 lbs bricks. Of course it's not the experience of a standard FIDE approved brick, but the sound of brick falling and the feel of 80+ years of history of American brick manufacturing on pipi is one of a kind.

No, but seriously, when I googled it I got a thread where it was explained, pasting the reply below:

The brick is from a meme a while back, someone on r/chess made something about their workout based on how well they did in a chess game, like 1 blunder = 5 push-ups or whatever, and someone here posted a version with one added: don't take en passant = drop a brick on my cock

Empty threats when en passant is forced.
