I frankly have no idea why you would prefer it over Discord other than open source access. Revolt dissuades from self-hosting, is non-federating, has no stable business model and lacks in features. It is a prototype for a future where Discord catastrophically burns down.

To be fair, between Twitter and now Reddit, it’s not exactly a bad idea to have alts and backups lol.

official client is customisable and by default looks way better than discord, third party clients are allowed, it's feels the opposite of corporate, doesn't have AI, has its original features like multireplies and except for the pretty inferior voice chat that will undergo rewrite there aren't really any I miss, I do quite well without super reactions. as for now donations are sufficient, you always have an option to self-host and tbh if it was federated most people would be on the official server anyway, it would be harder for normal people to join and moderation would be harder so I'm pretty ok with not having it there... not like discord has that

As being part of some very large communities, as soon as Discord drops a new feature, there is some way these groups make use of it in a beneficial way. Revolt would not need just some original features, but near full parity to be even remotely considered, think LibreOffice vs Microsoft Office. And even then there might be reasons to stay due to implementation details for complex use cases.
