Mods can be from other instances - to make someone mod just have them post to the community. Use the tree dots and make mod

Awesome! Thank you so much! Is it possible to reach a state where the mods are all from other instances because the original mod quit?

Yes, but I think the admin of the instance can take ownership of the community if needed
