I've been a star trek fan for 40 years, and I absolutely love Strange New Worlds.
Some of their episodes are pretty bad, but that's ALWAYS been the case with every iteration of Star Trek.
What this show gets right is the humor, respect for canon without being a slave to it, philosophy over action most of the time. Great acting. Lovable characters. Not taking themselves too seriously, while still being weighty when it counts.
But keeping the series episodic the cases of bad writing are quarantined, unlike in Picard or Discovery where stupid writing poisons season-long plot arcs.
I love the look and feel of the show. When they do engage in action scenes, they are Hollywood blockbuster-quality. The hand to hand combat is stupid, but watching the enterprise doing stunts has never been so fun.
This has been an excellent tonal blend of TOS and TNG. It's fun and funny, but not campy.
And it feels more so much more polished than voyager, enterprise, and ds9.
Anyway, I recognize that it's an imperfect show, but far more than the reboot movies, discovery, Picard, enterprise, and even the later TNG movies, Strange New Worlds FEELS like Star Trek.
It's great to have that feeling back.
