I've tried firefox in the past. Back and forth I go when google does something dumb but I always go back. This time I think I'll deal with the stuff I don't like for now, or maybe make extensions to fill the voids that I miss desperately.
Been using it since the start of the year, the transition was pretty simple. what don't you like?
15 years ago, Firefox would cause my desktop computer to spin up its really loud fan once or twice an hour. It was a room away from my bedroom, but it was enough to wake up my (now) wife, who was angry, but unable to identify the source of the noise. That lasted for a few weeks before I noticed it during the day. When I switched to Chrome, it stopped.
It's totally unreasonable, but it's enough to keep me off Firefox. I'm sure both browsers have been rewritten multiple times since then.
Well, it was, until the whole "web integrity thing".
Yeah. That does sound unreasonable haha.
I used to use Firefox before chrome released. It used to be the best, but chrome took the crown after Firefox became a memory eater.
Now chrome is being all iTunes walled garden, and Firefox also recently overtook it in terms of speed.
I installed it alongside my trusty chrome install, played around with extensions(or add-ons) until the experience mostly matched, and switched over once I was satisfied.
Chrome's still installed if I need it, but I haven't needed it!
It's worth a go at least!
I rely on chromes tab groupings. Nothing in Firefox does as good a job, but I'm getting by just fine for now.
Why so many tabs? I close as I go else it's a cluttered mess.
Is your solution to Firefox not having proper tab grouping "why do you need tab grouping?" Lol
I don't have a solution, so I'm having a conversation about it.
Don't treat me like I own Firefox and it's my job to convert everyone.
Why not? It seems like that's exactly what you're doing lol
I'm just asking questions, as I haven't personally had many issues. I've had some, but not the ones mentioned by the people here. I feel like people would prefer to have a browser with an ad blocker so I'm interested in what hurdles people are finding that may be stopping them.
Not everything is an argument.
Well... Most do? Lol you can install UBO on anything, or you can use browsers that come with it baked in like Vivaldi.
Ok. You seem like you have an issue with firefox.
Why would you recommend these browsers instead? Do they offer something better?
Well yeah, actually. Tab stacking on most of them and the side panel on Vivaldi that Opera and O:GX use as well (but fuck using Opera.) Built in ad and tracker blocking, too.
Neither can be replicated to suit my taste on Firefox, which seems like what the other user was getting at as well. When Firefox solves those issues with built in functionality I'll gladly switch, or when stock V stops being as good as Fox with UBO. By any metric I can find it appears to be from using them side by side while setting up Firefox and getting used to how I like it. See that's the thing, I've actually used FF and have reasons why I don't like it. I dont believe you've ever even installed the competition to see the difference, if you had you've know what kind of things they offer instead of having to ask.
I guess I'll throw FF a bone though, it's much easier to use the fonts you want than in anything Chromium.
I usually have 30+ tabs grouped around in chrome. I got a lot going on and it helps keep my ADHD in check when I'm trying to work on something.
My version is starred emails in Gmail and folders full of bookmarks instead 😅
I hope they integrate a tab grouping functionality for you tab hoarders soon!
Yes. This. Chrome’s multi-profile mode is perfect. Firefox’s about:profile bullshit is just awful.
Im still FireFox only, but I would love to see some improvement in this area.
Agreed - they really just need to roll the 'Profile Switcher for Firefox' extension into base functionality - and this would have the benefit of not requiring an additional install to work.
Firefox containers are godly. I'll never go back to chrome.
