A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted, clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts: 1
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- If you feel strongly that you want politics back, please volunteer as a mod.
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Idaho, the mountainous parts, are nice. Some of the people are nice. But in general, Idaho has some of the most batshit insane stuff happening in it in regards to cults and crazy people. It's been getting crazier in recent years. They were an absolute mess during the pandemic and needed tons of help from other states who then couldn't look after locals in need.
I was trying to be inclusive, because I'm not american and I don't want to disparage those places I've never been to or know that well...but since you say it...rural states sound like a backwater nightmare :/
Honestly, all they really need are better schools and then about 20-30 years for those kids to become adults. Changes society for the better. Religion is a big chink in people's armor here. I wouldn't count 'em out yet, but right now...God fuck there is some crazy shit that goes down there, lol.
Still, gotta give them credit where credit is due: Idaho was the state that hosted the Sawtooth wolf pack which was a research program that later helped reintroduce the wolves to Yellowstone. This led to a broader effort to restore apex predators across the US, which has restored ecosystems and made the animal populations much more healthy, from the northern US all the way down to the southern US.
So, while Idaho can sometimes be rather trying, they have given us some pretty good environmental gifts and research.
