With match day one past for everyone, how are we feeling about Leagues Cup? On a scale of MLS Is Back to Champions' League, how much do you want your club to win?
I'll start: I'd rather we play our MLS NEXT PRO side rather than the first team for the rest of the tournament. I care more about the Desert Diamond Cup then Leagues Cup.
I have to say I made fun of it when it was announced, but I'm finding it enjoyable to watch. I've watched parts of a few games (part of that was just for Messi) and the 5 minute recap highlights of every game. I find it more exciting than MLS is Back and almost as exciting as CCL/C. I really like seeing how the bottom and middle tier teams fare against LMX teams. The games have all been more competitive than I predicted, which is cool. While it is interesting seeing the best teams from outside of US/Mexico/Canada play in CCL/C, I don't find a lot of the games to be very competitive.
My team, LAFC, has had a disappointing season so far with losing the CCL final after betting the season on it, not trying for the Open Cup, and also sliding pretty badly lately in the Shield race. So this might be our best shot at CCC next year. I would love for us to win it.
I think I'm going to really enjoy it next year, I just haven't been able to really give it a chance because the World Cup is on and that's where my soccer watching is invested.
I have watched more matches than I thought I would. Part of it is interest in gauging MLS's general skill level against Liga MX and the rest is seeing how Messi does.
I do want my team to win if only to get into the CCL (CCC now?). Glad they at least paused the regular league matches though, get to see everyone's best effort and no one's getting injured due to overexertion.
CCL/CCC is my favorite tournament, and going to Morocco to watch my Sounders in the Club World Cup is my favorite soccer memory by far, so I definitely get the draw of the CCC berth as a prize.
