What is happening with "small towns" and some country singer? (self.outoftheloop)

Posts referencing some things happening or not happening in small towns are all over lemmy & mastodon, sometimes with a picture of some country singer (?) with a cowboy hat (but never with a name do I can't just google what's going on).

Apparently it has something to do with threatening violence?
