Can confirm, have made the move. It was only a matter of time before that place went down the fascist watch list.
Facebook, gone. Amazon, gone. Reddit, gone.
Gotta get rid of my Google account next.
I've degoogled and life is sweet.
I'm working on getting rid of Google, but it is linked into so many things it's going to take a lot of time to do it completely.
I've moved away from Chrome as a browser and Google as a search engine. I'm starting to disconnect other accounts I've logged into using Google as well.
I'm setting up new email accounts - I'm using my own domain name so I can move in future instead of feeling so tied to one provider.
At some point I need to look at Google drive/photos - I think there are a couple of things that synchronize through there still. The find my phone service is tied into Google. All my apps are downloaded from the Play store, and there are a few things tied into Google Wallet.
I can get rid of the main bits, but I think it's going to take years to get rid of it all.
Photos went downhill once they limited the number of photos you can upload and before that: discontining Picasa. Their killer AI features are everywhere now too, so it's not hard to stop using it
If you have an alternative to Google maps please share. I'm working my way away from the rest, but that's one I'm stumped by. I'm considering getting a standalone Garmin, but I map things from my phone when I'm not going anywhere more than I use it for navigation. I'm all for putting up with inconvenience if it means getting away from the oligarchy, so this may be my biggest test.
I lean right and they banned me. It's not about being left leaning or right leaning. Either you're far one way or another or you're not welcome anymore.
They definitely don't like the far left, they're banning people for saying "eat the rich". Amidst leftists that's protected cultural speech, it's our version of hello.
What they hate right now is mostly pretty random, but I think they're going for a pro authoritarian schtick. It's a bold move, cotton.
And meanwhile all the mods over there are doing everything in their power to show absolute loyalty to u/spez when he doesn't even pay them lol. Fuck u/spez.
Most of the mods hate Spez too, they just can't say or do anything. If they speak out, the admins will take the subreddits they moderate away and give them to someone who is willing to lick his feet.
Good luck. Assuming you have a smart phone, it's either Apple or Android. But I get the feeling that you are not an apple simp, and most Android devices require Google to even set up.
