You can play whatever you want, but in the comments of a post specifically about one of the very few places that DnD pays lip service the LGBTQ community, it seems appropriate to talk about the primary competitor that absolutely crushes representation and social justice issues.
But you do you.
I had absolutely no problem with the first part of your message. That was perfectly fine. Your second part about just actively insulting DnD is completely unnecessary. So yeah, it is appropriate to talk about the primary competitor but (again) you are doing Pathfinder ZERO FAVORS by acting this smug and arrogant in your own personal opinion on which is better while trying to show off your game.
But thanks again for confirming that if this is what the Pathfinder players are like to try and get you to play their game, there is no way in hell you're not going to inflict the same judgment on character choices within the actual game itself. Whether that be equipment, classes, races, whatever. Doesn't matter. The only thing I'm ever going to think is "Well, they're already openly saying that one thing is better than another unilaterally when it's a matter of opinion on which one is better. Why will they suspend that train of thought for anything in the game?"
But you do you. I've seen and heard more than enough to make my decision on avoiding Pathfinder for at least another year until you lot are drowned out.
Hey, I'm not the one downvoting posts because I don't like their tone.
Plus, I don't judge people based on their choice of game (as you seem to); I am simply pointing out that there are other options. Sure, I used "better" as a shorthand for "more complex, more balanced, more inclusive, better written (especially from the GM's PoV), and more universal," so I could have done a better job of explaining what I meant. If you think that's being condescending, I'm happy to give you specific examples of why I think that and you can judge for yourself, or go read/watch any of the many, many side-by-side comparisons.
I play DnD with my good friends because that's what they want to play, and I don't judge them or their character choices. I mentioned Pathfinder as an option before session zero, and we agreed to go with DnD due to people's familiarity. However, in a community dedicated to DnD and TTRPG's in general, it doesn't seem out of place to me to talk about other options. And the other people upvoting my original post seen too think it's a valid contribution as well.
Like I said, you should play whatever game you want. If you don't like Pathfinder players, then you can just, you know, not play Pathfinder. Feel free to downvote and move on.
"yeah I had a bad experience when someone was recommending this ruleset, so I'll stick with the game they said was less tolerant just to prove a point"
Hasbro isn't worth your loyalty, you know
