By technical I'm referring mainly to ActivityPub/federation as well as the ability to host your own instances and related details.

Artists (Capital ART) are on the fediverse. Things and art I have never seen before.

There are makers that are truly doing things that are super awesome. Building machines/automation that are helping out their lives. You can find these things on the open web as well, but not as "free" (IE locked behind some sort of wall).

I met someone on a pixelfed server that works over at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for example just looking at photos. Its awesome!!

Also it feels like its filled with real people.
