Also OP, you might want to look into running your own Mastodon instance. It's going to present a challenge if you don't have a technical background but you learn a whole lot. The only real way to beat censorship is by being your own service provider. I have some very strong opinions (none that are hate-based but can be controversial) so I don't want to be at the mercy of some random sysadmins inability to see things objectively.
I'm done with social media after this. I'm going to read the newspaper and use telegram with my friends who aren't thin-skinned pussies like some of the Zionist goofs on this thread and mastodon. I'm banned from every social media platform except irc and Lemmy. I HATE censorship. I will intentionally break the rules to piss off jannies.
lol You'll never be done with social media.
sniff... I know. Until I get my IRCv3 server off the ground, I'm stuck in normie-land.
But perhaps we can empower you to learn to DIY. 😁
I'm too lazy to make my own mastodon or Lemmy server. I'll make my own irc server if anything, that I know very well. Inspircd or equivalent is fine. IRCv3 isn't mature yet to deploy but http://ergo.chat is fully IRCv3 compliant.

Well, when you're ready to dive in you just let me know. It's not going to take a lot of time or money and it is rewarding.
For mastodon or Lemmy?
Lemmy is more challenging to get going. Mastodon would be a better start for you. While Lemmy has been around for 4 years, it still lacks a lot of the polish that Mastodon has.
The whole platform is just Twitter, which I hated and I hated how it's crossed over with Lemmy. It's as annoying as the pylink bots on multiple servers for the same channel on IRC. I just don't get the constant joining and merging. It's a ploy for the data mining psyop bullshit.
