Ive actually been experimenting with using aquatic snails like nerites, ramshorns and pond/bladder snails to help control algae and detritus buildup in hydroponics.
So far pond/bladder snails have proven to be ineffective as they tend to feed on the plant roots as much as anything else but ramshorns have proven pretty successful.
