Yeah, I'm still undecided on what I'm doing to do abiut rocket and/or ionized fuel. I sure as hell don't like the prospect of retrofitting this facility, but do I REALLY need them enough to build a whole new one? Maybe I could make a smaller one, built on a Normal node of Crude Oil, rather than Pure?
I found retrofitting my fuel generators to take turbo and then Rocket fuel to be a huge investment but ultimately worth it. With the raw oil on the west coast I was able to make enough power to get me from mid game to tier and make 2k rubber and plastic By the time I could get ionized, I could have way more power with my nuclear power plant
It's not efficient and doesn't make a lot of sense, I built a node out in the middle of nowhere with oil and ran it to where I was making crystals and droned in containers. I had it hooked up to a small storage and a depot to make it convinent so I could retrieve it anywhere for my jetpack. Told myself one day I'd come back and make it look nice... I believe the excess is still being sunk and that's it lmao
On the plus side, the generators themselves are the same. You wouldn't need to rework those, except to increase the number. Overclocking the generators can help there too if you aren't doing so already.
Ionized isn't worth it unless you need a way to sink power shards in a complex end game setup. It takes a got bit of power to make. Also supposedly one of the best fuels for the jetpack. Once you get some alt recipes (Heavy Oil Residue and Diluted Fuel) you can really make your crude stretch, and it's not really the limiter. My first retro fit was from Turbo Fuel to Nitro Rocket Fuel, and now I am in the middle of moving to Heavy Oil Residue -> Diluted Fuel -> Nitro Rocket Fuel. I have more crude oil than I can use now, and am limited by sulfur/coal/etc.
Given all of that, yes, making a separate plant might be a good plan.
This whole plant is tuned to be evenly overclockable, so yeah, expansion would mean needing more generators.
