It's not just a desire path but also a shortcut that saves you 7km. They are trying to block it but it's coming back on the side.

Edit: Update, how it's going...

7km?! Why the hell are they blocking it

I reached out to them, made a case about it. I'll post an update here once I hear from them.

But yes, it's 7km so people walking and cycling are pushing through.

I cycled almost knee deep through water a couple of months ago to avoid a shorter distance than that.

Don't doxx yourself with a screenshot or anything but is it two very long paths running side and the only "official" cutover is an intersection?

I'm so confused why any city planner would do this...but I guess I've seen a lot of poorly-planned stuff

Welcome to Southeast Asia! In some countries here road planning is an afterthought. Pedestrian or cyclist access is optional.

I've seen it a few times, both of the developers do better planning on their side (not great, just better) but when it comes to connecting to a neighboring area, not such a great job.

This desire path is right in the middle, so without it, it's a 7km journey left or right from where the picture was taken to the other side.

That's crazy. Keep knocking those bushes down!
