During these beatings, it becomes clear that the victims don't even understand why they are being assaulted. Regular beatings, humiliation, and abuse are the signature behavior of Russian officers. No sane human being wants to be on the trenches. I understand accepting that fate for a reason. To protect, or even money.

To be there as an attacker for a handful of rubles, knowing you're just disposable cannon fodder... Russia is porpoisly turning them mad. Sane soldiers would rebel.
