Flight - explain?
Flying is uncomfortable at best, and no one cares how you look.
This goes against what OP said though. Comfort is trashy and looking respectable is more important.
Tbf OP never said comfort is trashy, just leisure wear and "comfort clothes." Everyone who's ever worn a properly tailored suit will tell you that they can be the most comfortable ensemble in someone's closet.
Written wearing a pair of relaxed corduroy trousers and Howlin' fairisle sweater. Comfortable, casual, but entirely inoffensive to someone with taste.
That was in reference to "leisurewear" and "comfort clothes" being trashy. Not that comfort is trashy.
It's not only possible but pretty easy to be comfortable without wearing "trashy" comfort clothes or leisure wear. I gave an example of that.
Oh but they do, that's the entire point of this post. Of course wearing loungewear is more comfortable, sometimes signaling is more important than comfort. Pants on the flight please (or a dress or whatever).
Okay, maybe you should speak for yourself. I really don't care if someone is wearing sweats, leggings, or whatever on a long flight. Not my business and has no bearing on me.
