I'm not sure what you're asking here.

Within the realm of computing any media we use today are a collection of bits. We use tools like web browsers to render many of those collections, text, image, sound, video, and pdf are all covered by current web browsers.

Other collections like documents and spreadsheets are rendered by their respective applications.

The fediverse only needs to support links to those for a functional experience.
