It was created by a troll farm on reddit as a divison tool during Russia's disinformation campaing on social media in 2015 for the US election.

That's the history of the sub.

I have never heard this (though I don't care enough to discover the origin history of a sub) and have no evidence it's true.

But for the sake of argument, let's say it is, who cares? Whatever its original purpose, it's now just a shit posting, meme sub focused on politics. I like mocking politics.
