I have been breaking my head over this chess puzzle.

Its entirely possible to have the horses and bishops play together but the problem is but they require separate entrances also separate from the rooks entrance. Then you have to position it so the horses cant exploit one entrance into another and escape.

Not for a second do i believe the author is not aware of it, i think they tried it and then gave up on that particular detail.

Come to think off it, the only reason that we cant have a large communal area for all pieces of the same colour is to let the bishops meet with those of the opposite color. If not for that it would mean every one sPIECEs has 5 other sPIECEs to hang out with, surely that an improvement on this premise where its max ~~2~~ 3.
