Chess? Sounds dumb but it checks all the requirements
You're right. Though I would prefer something where the board has a random layout, is hex, the teams can be asymmetrical (both in units and aggregated unit value) and there is imperfect information. Maybe I just have to create it myself. It would also be cool if the outcome of one game can have an effect on the next game against the same player, which would add more strategic depth. All this is present in single player games, but there is no multiplayer game that I'm aware of (at least one that has a living multiplayer scene). Maybe Dominion 6, but that is 4X.
The thing I dislike the most about chess is the memorization of moves. It's mostly about who makes the first mistake. I want memorization of heuristics and planning to be the main thing. There is random chess of course..
Hmm.. Maybe MegaMek?
