Anyone have an idea why #17 Tommy Paul would have to go through qualifying in London? Looking at the rankings, he’d not only be eligible for direct entry, he’d be the #6 seed. Is the LiveTennis app drunk?

It mihht be that he was a late entry. Often you'll see players that are ranked high enough to get in the main draw get wildcards because they enter after the draw is already out. I'm guessing the same can happen with qualifiers.

I’ve definitely seen late entry wildcards all the time, but never a highly ranked late entry get forced into qualifying. It isn’t like Paul was ranked outside the top 50, vaulted into the top 20 after RG, so the tournament was using his pre-RG ranking for the draw. Guess we’ll have to see next week
