Comic panels taken out of comics so we can make fun of them!! We love the golden age stuff!

Rules:

  1. Comics must come from actual comic books. No AI or Photoshops.

  2. Single panels are preferred.

  3. Comics should be unintentionally funny. Spider-man cracking wise is not what this is about.

  5. I can't believe I've had to add this... NO RACISM.

Man there's a lot of casual racism in these old strips. While hunting this down I came across a bit where Billy Batson (Captain Marvel's alter ego) drinks some river water that turns him brutish and animalistic. His assistant Steamboat (who is black and drawn/speaks very stereotypically) then drinks the same water and is turned intelligent, which has... implications.

Steamboat's wiki page says:

The character played the role of valet to both Captain Marvel and his teenaged alter-ego, Billy Batson, and was intended by Captain Marvel co-creator C. C. Beck to appeal to African-American readers. However, protests from African-Americans and other readers concerning Steamboat's racial stereotyping led to the character's disuse after 1945.

Hmm, wonder why the character was unpopular ๐Ÿค”

Just for reference, this is the character:

How anyone thought this would vibe with the intended audience is beyond me. No wait, it's actually not. It's just incredibly sad.

Holy shit...
They really drew him more like an ape than a human.

The face is bad enough. But look at the hands too!

And the way he stands.

I would bet you that Mr. Beck's conversations with black people mostly involved talking to "the help."

"How could anyone say I'm racist, when I have a black driver?"
