Contrarian means against the popular opinion. The word doesn't define motive, only the position.

I'm less optimistic on this overall. It took a long time to weaken other war driven countries.

The US has been in conflict (starting or managing) for almost its entire existence.

As noted, being less skilled doesn't slow the murder - I fully expect that the murder will increase and be less precise.
