It appears Trump is going to be the next president of US. I'm not sure such a thread is needed in the first place, but here goes.

Feeling anxious? Desperate? Got the expected result?

What do you think went wrong? What do you think went right? What do you think the future holds?

EDIT: it's official - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election/2024/us/results

Feeling like Kassandra. All the data showed that this was a possible scenario but both far-leftists and libs thought it was over-reacting.

feeling like Cassandra for having correctly predicted a 50/50 call where everybody knew it could go both ways

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

No. Because nearly everyone around refused to take the possibility of a fascist win seriously and they still refuse to take the impending consequences seriously. People are still talking about "whether the Dems will learn anything and have a good candidate next election" as though the fascists haven't literally said that they are going to end democracy and commit genocide.

I'm tired, boss.

I'm tired too, friend. I was staunchly in it to keep things going awhile longer while everyone was getting their shit together, but the war is lost now, and honestly? I don't really plan on making it out alive.

Too many morons lived through the dark times of his first term, saw the horrible things he did and said, saw how unfit he was for any office position at all, among many many MANY other matters that would prevent a normal person from running, and still chose to vote for him. By a majority this time, no less. I.. think I'm done.

Do remember that it was the majority of those who voted, not the majority of the populace. Right-wing politics have been in the minority and declining for some time but holding on through cheating the electoral system and making the House of Representatives not proportional as it was intended.

Try to help your fellow people, as you can, even if it's telling shitty jokes. I try to take some comfort in the fact that authoritarian governments are unsustainable and always fall eventually. Whether we make it through alive or not, we can try to make things better for those who come after us.

I don't who's "everyone around you" but on the internet the possibility of a fascist win was taken very seriously and was kind of the only conversation subjects in the last couple months.

Huh? Leftists were telling everyone harris campaign was trash... Stop with this nonsense.

We'll be here helping manage the shit show thats going to follow.

But you also didn’t offer a constructive alternative to a Trump presidency.

I know you’re all on your anti-genocide high horse by abstaining from the vote, but the silence from the far left has allowed the exact same genocide to continue in Gaza, along with the potential genocide of minority groups in your own country.

So, bravo. As a leftist myself, I hope you feel the brunt of this presidency more than those who tried to fight it.

My state went for harris as i said it would. Ive said repeatedly harris' campaign was horrible due to its lack of populist labor policies etc. but yes, the genocide and complete shutdown of student protestors was a massive issue.

I didnt bury my head in the sand. Now what are you going to be doing these next 4 years to fix this? I know what ill be doing.

There was no constructive alternative to offer. Trying to brow beat people to harris wouldn't work and the dunces for harris wouldn't hear anything. Not even an ask to stop a fucking genocide. Get it now? People wouldn't even hear a simple call to stop fucking mass murdering people. Never mind anything more nuanced.

Nah. Plenty of anti-electoralists/accelerationists were happy to spread propaganda to help Trump. Now, as a far-leftist that doesn't buy that tripe, I'm gonna have to try to help people whose lives are now in far greater danger while they get off on their "moral superiority". Those people and Stein supporters can go fuck themselves while the grown-ups try to save people from the intended death camps.

EDIT: I didn't mean "regular" leftists like progressives and anarchists.

laugh go look at the numbers stein did jack shit. Keep burying your head in the sand.

Pennsylvania:

You refused to hear a call to stop a genocide you think you would have down anything remotely useful to shift harris on things like labor rights, healthcare, non competes, and monopoly busting ala khan?

Your problem was turnout. And you wouldnt even hear the call to save Wisconsin for harris. Probably the only state where 3rd party candidates did matter.

Your problem was turnout.

Turnout always is the problem. The anti-Harris propaganda was intended to discourage voters, and it worked. Congrats.

And you wouldnt even hear the call to save Wisconsin for harris. Probably the only state where 3rd party candidates did matter.

No "you" here. I'm a pragmatic voter and anarchist who in the course of a day has gone to an extremely high chance of losing loved ones through state-sponsored murder, political violence, and suicide. So, you'll excuse me if I don't give a fuck about the pretend "moral high-ground" of those claiming to care about genocide while putting their fingers on the scale for "turbo genocide", greater inaccessibility to health care, more monopolies, and more union busting.
