Newspeak and Doublethink
people constantly say "cognitive dissonance" when they should be using doublethink. there is no 'dissonance' when you see absolutely no problem with believing 2 completely contradictory things, e.g., "we must protect the children" and "oh well nothing we can do about school shootings"
