Very possible, but putins crazy.

I don't know how Ukraine would convince Russia the threat is real without at least a test detonation somewhere and that's better than bombing someone, but also not ideal.

He's not crazy, he's a cold, calculating sociopath.

He wants people to think he's crazy when it comes to nukes because that makes his empty threats seem scary.

Yeah, that's true, but it was always going to be a tight line to walk to get out from under a Russian invasion without going the Afghanistan route.
