  • Anno: Mutationem - perfect cyberpunk visuals/aesthetic but the gameplay is kinda janky. There are "explore the city and talk to NPCs to get side quests" parts of the game and then there are "combat" parts of the game. The two don't cross. So when you're in a "combat" section it's all platforming and fighting on a 2d-plane. When you're in "explore" sections, you can run around in three dimensions but I don't remember if you can even jump. The visuals are the reason to play this game.
  • Observer: System Redux - A Walking Simulator. That is, first-person view but no shooting/combat. You play a detective investigating a crime after everything has happened and the bad guys have left. So you go from room to room exploring and accessing the memories of dead people. It's incredibly well done and you can take your time with it since it isn't possible to die in this game. I'm not sure if I'd call it a horror game since nothing is really out to get you, but the visuals are definitely cyberpunk/horror. If you're ok with a slower investigation-driven game, this one is really well-made.
  • Gungrave G.O.R.E - One of the most mediocre games I've played. Solid 6/10. Very repetitive and generic but nothing is really "bad". The entire game is: enter room, shoot bad guys until everyone is dead, exit room, repeat. The shooting is fine I guess, they try to make it arcade-y where you build combos and gain points, but all the enemies are bullet-sponges so it takes a while to clear a room.
  • Ghostrunner - A very fast-paced game. If you stand still, you die. If you get hit once, you die. But every enemy also dies in one hit. This is almost a puzzle game where you have to figure out the optimal route to kill every enemy in the room. So while the rules are basically the same as Gungrave (enter room, kill all enemies, exit room), this game makes you feel like a bad-ass cyber ninja. The game is very generous with checkpoints (basically, every room you enter is a new checkpoint) so you can trial and error each room until you have it memorized, but you never have to repeat a room once you get past it. This is a great game but you have to have quick reflexes to execute the path to complete a room.
  • Severed Steel - Hey, look at that! A game I haven't played! Don't know anything about it. Kinda looks like Ghostrunner but with guns. I don't know.
  • Cloudpunk - Really good, mellow game. You play a courier; so pick up packages, take them to your hovercar, drive to the destination, drop off the package where it needs to go. You can drive your hovercar or walk around anywhere you want. The voxel graphics take a bit of getting used to but it's an intentional design decision. While the game does have an ending if you just follow the missions, there's no rush to do so. The makers of this game are working on a loose sequel called Nivalis (the name of the city you explore in Cloudpunk) but this one will just be a life-sim. So even less pressure to complete objectives than in Cloudpunk.
  • Voltage High Society - Another game I've never heard of and know nothing about. Looks like a boomer-shooter but claims to be a metroidvania. Still in Early Access though.

Wow! Thank you for this! I guess I’ll hold off based on your reviews. I feel like cyberpunk games/shows (and even sci-fi to a certain degree) can be so hard to find. I feel like fantasy is so much more popular even though I’d think it would be more equal.
