What is Inktober?

Inktober is a yearly art event intended to improve your inking skills. Every day, there's a prompt which everyone will draw with either ink on paper or digital inking

From the main site:

Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.

What to do

The main two ways to participate are to draw daily like a marathon or every second day like a semi-marathon. The operative word being marathon. It doesn't have to be your best piece of art or even something you're proud of in any way. As the creator of this community, I know quite a bit of what I create will be absolute trash. I'm ok with this though.

This community

A daily post will be pinned at the top to round up each days work. One may either make a post to the community, or comment on the pinned post.

Well I hope you can hide out in your house so you don't run into any of these crazy people then.

Someone took it personal? Are you a brainless crazy Trump-supporter?^^

Don't worry, I'm living somewhere completely different, it also gets worse here, with people increasingly supporting right-wing-populism. But I'm lucky to not even have remotely such people in my social circle. That's probably why I have a hard time understanding such idiocracy...

I'm not sure why youd have trouble understanding echo chambers since you just described being part of one.

I had rare occasions to (try to) discuss (constructively) with such people (or at least the equivalent here in europe). Honestly it's a sad experience...

A very long time ago (> 10 years), I had also such experience with rednecks in the USA, which I'm pretty sure today would vote for Trump (maybe even be the spearhead of this kind of idiocracy). And yeah it's these occasions where I loose faith in humanity. It's ... an ... interesting experience, to witness such in-factual stubbornness based on hate and anxiety... I hope we'll improve society especially with this in mind anytime soon, but I'm not too optimistic when thinking about all the changes that capitalism and technology (related to capitalism, like social-media) brings, and even now still accelerates...

You are frustrated because you went to those groups expecting to change their minds rather than to understand them better. I understand its difficult but I don't think that means its not worth doing.

[–] fuck_u_spez_in_particular 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No I didn't really. Although one can always hope, to give them a new perspective (that is less based on hate and anxiety). It's more about learning this screwed conception of the world, and the thought-process that e.g. "the elite" (which they ironically support) is against them, making everything worse.

Well and the fact that they make up their own construct of unlogical emotion(mostly negative)-based conspiracies, that even when falsified with simple arguments they can't seem to get away of them...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well why would you expect them to adopt your perspective when you simply think they are stupid people who will believe anything.

You never understood what they are feeling and why, and why they are expressing it the way they are.

If you want to change their mind, build a connection with them. We all have the same emotions, its not that complex.

What's the saying? Dont hate what you don't know?

Well why would you expect them to adopt your perspective when you simply think they are stupid people who will believe anything.

Have I said such in my last comment? Also it doesn't seem everything, the logical truth they often don't accept because it doesn't fit in their world-view.

You never understood what they are feeling and why, and why they are expressing it the way they are.

Btw. what I learned, this is really the main issue apart from emotions taking over rationality: not fitting in their world-view (also from research, my sister-in-law is researcher on this exact topic).

If you want to change their mind, build a connection with them.

Yep not gonna happen, tried, failed, talking against a wall is more effective... Also my worldview is so vastly on the opposed side of this spectrum, how should this ever work, bending my mind completely?? I'm not a rhetoric politician, nor even a very social person (especially when they're the kind of people we're talking about).

I just have to accept that there are a lot of idiots, or let's be honest: mentally ill, promoted by our unhealthy society? Because conspiracy-theorists, I would say is at least some form of schizophrenia, narcissism is likely also playing a part.

Also just for my own mental health: Because having interactions with these people, having in mind that there's a lot of similar ones, in effect screwing the world (climate-change etc. and yes it's mostly the rich/controlling-class, but they're often getting elected by these people). All of this is not good for (my) mental health...

It's just sad, that it's a realistic outcome that Trump could win this quite important election. I just can't do much about it other than living the best of my life, and see how humanity is on a way to idiocracy (because climate-change and the resulting conflicts will very likely not help...). I really hope to be proved wrong, and that we somehow manage to fix this (mostly education and social anxiety) problem though...

The fact you don't understand why a third of the country would vote republican while another third would sit out or vote third party is evidence ofnyourblack of understanding though.

I'm not saying you should do something you aren't comfortable with or mentally capable of handling, I'm saying why your efforts might have been ineffective in the past.
