Hey there, I'm glad to present Vox Uristi, a tool to export fortresses in the .vox voxels format. This can be used to make renders of fortresses, such as the one pictured: Heavenfall by Horrigant. You need to have DFHack installed to use it, and the rendering is done by MagicaVoxel.

Check out the gallery for more renders.

I was playing with this the other day! It seems really cool. I'm much more familiar with blender, so im going to try and get the vox files exported as OBJ's or something from MagicaVoxel.

Really sweet photo! How difficult was it to get your lighting settings right? It didn't seem very intuitive when I was messing around with it lol.

Edit: Wait I just realized youre the one who made the vox uristi tool lol! awesome! thank you for the hard work :)

Thanks! I'm having a blast developing it.

I too come from blender and yeah, MagicaVoxel is not as powerful, but once you get used to it, it's quite fast to get nice results. I think the most important things are to always set the lighting sky mode to "atmospheric", which set both nice lighting and generate the sky. For this render, the recipe is kind of:

  • Atmospheric sky lighting
  • Low angle backlight sun (like 1°)
  • bit of fog

And that's pretty much all.
