An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Sana all EU citizen.

The European Council has officially declared that all battery-powered equipment must have removable, easily-replaced batteries by 2027.

The regulation provides that by 2027 portable batteries incorporated into appliances should be removable and replaceable by the end-user, leaving sufficient time for operators to adapt the design of their products to this requirement. This is an important provision for consumers.

Fuck yeah EU.

Android Authority article can be found here.

Hope a similar bill gets passed here. I'd love to go back to the days where I can keep my phone for a bit longer by giving it a new battery. Limited na nga mga firmware updates e, at least let us have this. Also, mga Samsung users can sort of have their worries eased when faced with a swollen battery.

Because EU, we cannot reverse some accidental Google Street View captures. Someone blurred my relatives' property at hirap ibenta hanggang ngayon. Outdated na Street View capture nila (2018 pa, at 5 years later dami ng pagbago sa paligid). Not all times EU is right, though. Google cannot reverse it (of course they can, but they will risk lobbying at EU, again).

A sideways, though, but okay...

I wish that replaceable batteries on smartphones make a comeback. Because of this, nagtagal ang first Android phone ko (Samsung Galaxy Mini) ng anim na taon. Phones with non-replaceable batteries forcing us to buy new one.

I hope so too. Mas convenient mag baon ng maninipis na Anker li-ion batteries na isasalpak mo lang and have a fully charged phone kaysa sa powerbank.

Thank goodness. Gagamit lang ako ng phone outside kapag may chat and email notifications. Kinabukasan pa icha-charge ulit.

Oof. GDPR related to no? Definitely EU is not the whole paradise one thinks it should be.

I agree though, replaceable batteries and siguro right to repair. Then again I think ok naman yung right to repair seeing as there are quite a good number of phone repair shops. I just hope this country doesn't take the US route and gouge consumers' eyes out with exhorbitant fees at an authorized repair center.

Yeah. Many Google Maps users complain this feature, even from EU and N.A.

And now EU, may balak na mag-scan ng chats kahit sa mga privacy-focused services.

10 years ago, I had a Zerolemon battery attached to my phone and it allowed me to last 3 days without a charge. No need to lug around powerbanks or wait for your phone to charge before you touch it again.

Would be awesome to have those times back with the current phones that can't seem to hold a full charge for more than half the day.

Totoo. Now we have a phone, cable, AND a chonky powerbank we need to bring around and this gets worse as wear and tear gets to your phone unit as the years go by. Maganda rin ung option for other branded battery packs (provided they prove their worth).

I do hope they also give the consumer leeway in the future for right to firmware updates (which is unlikely given the potential of lost profits), but a man can dream.
