I'm looking to play casually (in person) with some friends and we were wondering what the cheapest format to start buying for would be? And what might be some good pick ups (we have the starter decks but want some more variety) thanks

Sharing your cards by shuffling up a pile of cards and "drafting" from them is the cheapest. Since the cards are shared you get rid of the "pay to win" problem.
You don't all need to share all cards you have, but having a "draft cube" like this makes it less of a collectable and more like a board game. You can get cheap or even free "draft chaff" cards at many game clubs.
