We used to have earbuds that don't need to be charged because they had a headphone jack, didn't get lost so easily because they had a cord attached to a headphone jack, never lost the bluetooth connection because they had a headphone jack, and they cost less because they had a headphone jack. https://bsky.app/profile/daisyfm.bsky.social/post/3l3mfjc6sn62k

wired usb-c headphones have all of these features today

But they suck.

  1. The usb plug is usually at the botttom so if you are holding a phone or tablet in your lap the wire is in the way.
  2. usb headphones sometimes stop working if the phone or tablet goes to sleep so you have to unplug and replug them
  3. you cant charge while using the headphones
  4. youre missing out on the thousands of standard headphones that have been produced for decades

nope. You can just get a cheap adapter with USB C on one side and 3.5mm Audio Jack on the other. I don't know about the audio problme though.

Earbuds could be used and your devices could charge at the same time without needing a dongle because they had a headphone jack.

Wireless charging pads cover that gap, however

Wireless charging is expensive, a wire is cheap

That's also valid. It's not my ideal either, but I figured it was worth bringing up nonetheless
