Checking to see how match threads work on Lemmy. I'm guessing not that well. 8 minutes in, Arsenal is up by 1 goal, and so far only 3 comments showing up for me.

It's showing up fine, most people probably just aren't commenting lol

Well, if the comments do sync in real-time that's great, that means live threads are possible in Lemmy.

It can’t possibly be as live as on Reddit if a lot of people are commenting from / subscribed from different instances. But I feel comments in general comes in fairly quickly.

If you really want fully live, you want something like IRC, Discord or another fully live chat.

For live-thread purposes within a minute or two is good enough. Besides, people watching on various streams have a bit of lag to deal with too.

Lemmy can potentially create a “live” mode for threads that can be turned on and that gives priority to syncing comments, if interest is there and it’s necessary for a good, federated experience.

Hah, the quality of comments in match threads on Reddit…

Whatever happens to Reddit and it’s quality and platform from now on, it’s hard to imagine it’ll ever become bad enough for people in those threads to bother migrating to Lemmy.
