Yeah, to anyone else reading: here is the article just in case you don't wanna make an extra click:
A Portland man faces attempted murder and hate crimes charges after prosecutors accused him of bursting into a rage and beating a transgender woman so severely that responding officers couldn’t distinguish the woman’s features.
Worth M. Briggs IV, 55, used a slur targeting the woman’s gender identity while inflicting the beating May 11 inside a Southwest Portland home, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Briggs had supplied the woman with drugs in the past and went to her house asking to do drugs with her but then repeatedly punched her when she refused, according to the affidavit.
Briggs also allegedly seared the woman’s arm on a stovetop burner and strangled her, the affidavit says. The attack stopped when the woman gave Briggs $300, prosecutors said. “The contusions and swelling around (the woman’s) eyes was so severe that officers could not identify her,” prosecutor Leslie Wu wrote in the affidavit.
Portland police arrested Briggs on June 18. He remains held in the downtown jail on charges including attempted murder and first-degree bias crime, booking records show.
Defense attorney Gayle Kvernland is seeking release for the longtime union stagehand and short-order cook, saying Briggs doesn’t pose a risk to the public. His criminal record includes prior convictions for attempted kidnapping and possession of methamphetamine. Reached for comment, Kvernland said Briggs denies the allegations.
Nearly 600 gender identity-based hate crimes were reported to the state’s Bias Response Hotline in 2023 — an increase of more than 50% from the year before, according to a report released to lawmakers by the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission in July.
Fay Stetz-Waters, the Oregon DOJ’s civil rights director, said at the time the data showed both an increase in overall incidents and in awareness of the hotline, leading to more reporting.
So @AgentOrangesicle seems to think this article is "full of shit." And he seems to think that it's ok for someone to beat transgender people. And he called me a piece of shit for posting it.
@AgentOrangesicle has been banned for his disgusting transphobic moments. I wanted to put them in the reply so everyone can see what a transphobic piece of shit he is. :)
