Indeed, I wonder why it evolved that way
I was looking it up and here are two things from the wikipedia page I thought were interesting:
In 6 months it can grow from the size of a grain of rice to greater than 6 feet wide (1.8 m).
It is edible, but not considered high quality. ~Uh,~ ~you~ ~too~ ~there,~ ~buddy.~ ~Pfft.~
