This doesn’t sound like an issue for those who use Fusion frequently, however you may want to find ways to get local files, just to be safe.

This is exactly why I don't use tools that won't let me save my files in my computer and use them elsewhere.

What do you use?

I tried to learn FreeCAD, but having only an hour or so of free time in a day, it felt like it was wasted.

I use FreeCAD. MangoJelly has really good videos on YouTube that you can watch sporadically

Guess I'll hunker down and get through the rough start.

You may also want to wait until 1.0 comes out. The schedule is still TBD but it has a LOT of quality improvements. It's still buggy and tricky to use in the current release version.

You can export to local storage in fusion?

Only in fusion format though. I can't load that into another CAD program.

Mine lists .f3d (the fusion format) .iges .sat .smt .step and .usdz

Edit: .usd to .usdz

I'd have to take a closer look at iges. As far as I can tell the rest of the formats are only 3d models and don't contain constraints or sketches.

Yeah, I wouldn't really expect them to, you can export sketches as .dwg files I know, but I don't think that carries constraint and parameter data forward. From a little reading there is some development on a .f3d file importer for freecad.

Is there a cad tool that actually does contain that data in an interoperable way that a separate cad tool can import? Foss or otherwise?

I'm stuck with fusion for work, and like using it overall, but I do appreciate the concern over being tied into a software as a service work environment.

Compatibility between CAD tools is always an issue. This is not exclusive to fusion360.
