Oh yeah! Trying, least a wee bit, to get more active here. Good to have a thriving DJ community.
Blockhead I could at least see in a mix potentially, but yeah not sure what I'd do with Olo unless we was getting way way off the rails and a bit surreal.
Left With You is such a vibe though.
Always been big on Ivy. They feel like their own genre -- truly pioneers in the post-dubstep / future beats scene. Very excited to catch em in a couple months. Been on the list for a hot minute!
I've always seen Ivy Lab more as DnB to be honest but I also haven't really delved into their catalogue much, maybe I should have more of a dig around see what is up.
Nothing wrong with getting off the rails a bit for a while. I quite like branching out into some weird esoteric shit for a few tracks before suddenly pulling the rug and slapping back into something else :D
Got any other communities to recommend? I haven't actually searched for DJ specific ones yet, I've mainly been posting dubstep xD
Oh yeah, they're sorta just doing their own thing. Seems ahead of the time in an era where there's no shortage of generic samey bass. Check out the Ivy Lab set on DEF's youtube channel. I've hit this mix like 5 times, incredible set. (I fucking love that whole channel so much. Not always to my taste, but tons of legendary sets with killer production value).
I always am a big fan of juxtaposition. Too much of the same stuff, same energy level, whatever, gets overly repetitive and loses its power. I'd much rather tell a story through the mix, with wider ups and downs, unexpected twists. When the crowd breathing heavy as hell it's nice to let em catch their breath before you melt their minds again. Like pickled ginger to reset the palette between sushi rolls.
Only other community I've seen on Lemmy is the Drum & Bass one. Much like this dub joint, still a humble lil crew. Be the change you want to see and all that tho! A lil recruitment couldn't hurt either, Lemmy still very off the radar.
