Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! โœˆ๏ธ

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

As an outsider, this is completely unexpected. I thought the Philippines was very anti-drug.

While it's true that the previous president had a drug war, he did go on record (as reliable as the word of a drunk is) that he supports medical marijuana citing his personal experience with abusing fentanyl to treat injuries.

It was thirty years ago I visited Malaysia. While the Phillipines are so many islands, I'd expect the climate, flora, and fauna to be similar.

There was marijuana commonly growing wild on the side of rural roads in Malaysia, plants so big they're identifiable by a teenager from a vehicle moving 30-50mph. The quality of the flower is so bad it'd not even sell at a bargain basement dispensary in Cali. But, it was everywhere.

I know this law will pertain to flower with a much higher content of THC. However, I'm definitely finding humor in the fact that the country had made illegal that which grows wild.
