Synology

This is a place for all topics regarding Synology hard- and software - especially (but not limited to) their NAS devices.

Just one thing: Let’s please be pleasant to each other and respect that people have different experience levels. Some are pros, some are noobs, yet everybody may have good ideas or interesting questions to ask and comments to make, and all of these shall be heard and appreciated. ❤️

And since we know from TV that all IT nerds 🤓 are h4xx0rs and wear hoodies all the time (if not even ski masks) in front of their computers, I chose an appropriate banner image (image credit).

As this community is just starting, I thought learning more about each other's setups would be interesting.

I'll go first:

  • DS916
  • 4x8TB Hard Drives: 3 WD Reds, 1 Seagate Ironwolf (oldest drive is 53,150 hours or just over 6 years)

I haven't had to replace anything yet (knock on wood)!

  • DS920+
  • 3x 6TB IronWolf HDDs
  • 20GB RAM
  • 10 Docker containers

Also have an older DS216j which I now use for certain non-critical backups as it lacks BTRFS.

Can't figure out why a normal image gets flipped when I upload it. Ah, well.

Holy moly they want $349.99 USD for a metal cage?

I'm sure you can buy cheaper but this a solid and adjustable half-rack. This is data center grade. There are cheaper options out there that would work fine but they were a bit to flimsy for my liking.
