Not going to link an article since the party behind the DDoS attack may not be who they say they are (meaning their motivations are essentially unknown) but I figured it might still be worth posting a discussion thread, if only to see what people are going to be doing while AO3 is down.

I also said to myself this is a sign to stop procrastinating and actually work on writing. Yet here I am, not doing that. More interested in who decided a fanfic site was worth a DDoS attack, besides the obvious just for fun.

Lol. I feel like there's some kind of meme in there where the AO3 author's are all the little crabs being like "it's a sign!" then instead of writing they all just I'm procrastinate in creative new ways.

But although I'm also curious about the motive behind the attack, I'm hesitant to believe it was whatever group is claiming credit for it right now because apparently that hate group asked for a ransom of some kind (which yeah, would be a stupid thing to ask for from AO3. Like, surely no one thinks the fanfiction archive with no ads is loaded with cash).

It's a little conspiracy-esque but I feel like it could have something to do with the overall internet unrest? Realistically it's probably just a mistake or something though. Lol.
