Is dwarf fortress not, like, the proto-rimworld?

I feel Rimworld has kind of a very different concept, you don't even have any layers. Games like Songs of Syx or especially Odd Realm feel much closer to DF. No idea how this specific title compares but I can see how there's been quite some competition.
