♦ Rules ♦

1. Stay Civil

This is a place for friendly discussion, memes, guides, art, gameplay questions, screenshots and the like. Discrimination and harrassment won't be tolerated.

2. Mark Spoilers

It is okay to post about "related games" (such as Age of Calamity and Breath of the Wild) but please use the spoiler "censor" and do not put spoilers directly into the title, as the censor doesn't work this way. Posts about other Zelda games might be suited better in general Zelda communities, like the ones listed at the bottom of the sidebar.

3. Offtopic Posts

Anything not related to BotW, like politics, religion, non-Zelda games etc. is better suited elsewhere and will be removed. The same goes for NSFW material.

4. No Advertisements

It is okay to post about merchandise, but links to those "design your own merch" sites will be removed, as those are almost always scams featuring stolen art. Affliate links will be removed as well. This isn't Etsy.

5. Provide Sources

If you're going to post art, comics, guides, screenshots etc. that are not your own OC, please mention the name of the original creator and ideally also a link to their portfolio/website. (Pinterest is almost never the original source)

6. Suggestions are Welcome!

Feedback, requests for improvements and constructive criticism are always appreciated ;)

A lot of the in-game books can be translated, but most of them have the placeholder/filler text about April Fool's Day. Mattison's diary however has both Hylian Script and Gerudo Letters, which isn't surpising with parents like these, and a unique message not found in any other in-game books.

For explanation: Patricia is Riju's personal Sand Seal, and that beast even has its own Hyrule Compendium entry. It is likely that her mom taught her much about Gerudo Town and its inhabitants to prepare Mattison for her journey there.

So... I went the entire game without trying to shoot Zonai parts from a bow and arrow. So when I finally let myself look stuff up, I saw all sorts of crazy crap.

Today, I saw someone building a spring staircase to ascend. 🤯

I like to try and translate in-game signs and books for fun, as most of them have a clear meaning and use English words. However, I have no idea what "yundumi" or "yungumi" are supposed to mean. At first I thought it might have been Yunobo's name prior to localization, but his original name is ユンボ (Yun-bo) so that can't be it.

In case you're curious where the translated letters come from, click here

EDIT: It is very likely the original name of "Yunobo Co." as the suffix "-gumi" refers to an organisation or group in Japan.

For as phenomenal is the game is, we sure are getting some lame cop-outs in place of tying up loose ends.

Edit: looks like the spoiler tags render correctly on the web page, but not all apps support it.

tl;drIt was magic and just disappeared and people are used to magic so... yeah shit's gone, yo

IIRC this is even a loading screen hint, but just in case anyone missed it (or is interested in the actual ratio), I decided to quickly test it.

Zonai Charges Capsules Ratio
1 small 1 1 : 1
2 small 3 1 : 1.5
3 small 5 1: 1.6
4 small 8 1 : 2
5 small 12 1 : 2.4
1 big 10 1 : 10
2 big 22 1 : 11
3 big 34 1 : 11.3
4 big 47 1 : 11.75
5 big 60 1 : 12

Conclusion: if you find a Zonai Device Dispenser with stuff you really like, feed it 5x Big Zonai Charges at once for maximum payout. The smaller Zonai Charges are best kept for other stuff, like checking what exactly a newly discovered dispenser spits out or refilling your battery in a pinch.

EDIT / ADDITION:

If you mix-and-match, you get the following output in capsules:

Zonai Charges 0 small 1 small 2 small 3 small 4 small 5 small
0 big 0 1 3 5 8 12
1 big 10 12 14 17 21
2 big 22 24 27 31
3 big 34 37 40
4 big 47 50
5 big 60

The blank squares are impossible as you can only put 5 items at once into the dispenser.

The Ratio:

1:X Ratio 0 small 1 small 2 small 3 small 4 small 5 small
0 big 1 1.5 1.6 2 2.4
1 big 10 6 4.6 4.25 4.2
2 big 11 8 6.75 6.2
3 big 11.3 9.25 8
4 big 11.75 10
5 big 12

What about Construct Horns?

These are always a 1:1 deal. Even if you put 5x Captain Construct IV Horns into the Device Dispenser at once, will you get 5x capsules in return.

Feel free to make a copy for personal use. I know that there are already a couple of other trackers / spreadsheets on the internet, but I wasn't really satisfied with the ones I've found, so I just made y own.

Sadly, Mattison doesn't actually react to them, and they despawn if you reload or simply leave, but it was a fun little experiment nonetheless.

Just for better readibility, as the paths overlap each other:

  • Just the Light Dragon:

  • Just the other three:

Flights paths taken from The Zeldamods Interacttive Map and cleaned up a bit, added flight direction and chasms / underground travel.

Launch tutorial from BotW legend Paradox Gaming.

TotK has a neat bonus feature that automatically imports your registered horses from BotW - same bond and name as before, all free of charge.

But there are a couple of things to keep in mind about this:

  • It only applies to horses from a Normal Mode playthrough. If you only have a Master Mode playthrough on a profile but no Normal Mode files, you don't get anything.

  • It is different for each individual profile on your console. If you have registered horses on profile A but start a TotK playthrough on profile B, you won't get anything that is registered on profile A.

  • Which horses you get is determined the moment you start a new game in TotK, not when you first interact with a stable and actually get your horses. If you want to get specific horses for free, you have to catch and register them before you even start a new TotK playthrough.

  • It also specifically depends on the most recent save file in BotW. Keep that in mind when you mess with the time / date settings of your console (for Animal Crossing, Pokémon games etc.) because the last time you saved the game IRL migth not count as "the most recent save file" in BotW when your console was set to 1990 or something like that.

  • The Royal White Stallion and Giant Horse transfer over if you own them. However, if you do NOT import them from BotW, you can still find them in TotK, albeit in new locations. (This ONLY applies if you didn't import them - you can't get duplicates)

Spoiler for the new locations:

  • Epona (from amiibo) also transfers over. You're still not allowed to customize her in any way, and you can't raise her stats at Malanya Spring.

  • The "default horse" does NOT transfer over. If you have "Link's Default Horse" (unique stats and look) in BotW, then you will get a "fake" variant of it in TotK (slightly different, non-unique look). The original DefaultHorse doesn't seem to exist anymore.

  • Equipment doesn't transfer over. You have to unlock the Royal, Traveler, Knight etc. Stable & Bridle-sets again. The good news is that you can now get the Traveler's Saddle and Bridle without an amiibo, and the other sets don't require annoying minigames.

  • The Ancient Set however doesn't exist anymore, which is a huge bummer IMHO. It might not have been the prettiest set, but the ability to teleport your horse to your side would have been a LOT *more useful in TotK for the sheer amount of vertical exploration. Even if the saddle only worked on the Surface instead of the Depths and Sky, would it have been super helpful.

  • Since Nintendo doesn't seem interested in creating DLC for TotK, it is unlikely that this set will be added unless they do it in an update or via new amiibo figurines.

You can also use a regular old torch for this, but those take up weapon inventory slots, whereas you can carry 999 wood bundles without issues.

I did a sequence break and found Mineru before getting The Fifth Sage quest. Is it possible for me to still 100% complete the game or are some of those quests now forever incomplete and not finishable? Also will I get the quests if I talk to the right people?

Why is it so hard to find the tails on these lizards? I mean I see them when I fight them and yet I hardly get drops. I'm having flashbacks of hunting Goretusk Livers for pie in Westfall.

70

It might not be that useful if you have a surplus of Zonai Charges anyway and can just refuel whenever you want with a single click, but it might be helpful during early-game exploration and challenge runs.

As always, 'ware spoilers.

I normally don't bother with corporate gaming content (preferring independent creators), but once I found out that this series of videos was hosted by BotW legend RinHara5aki I gave it a shot. And I'm glad I did. I almost always find out something new.

73

Spoilers for TotK if it's not obvious.

Nothing earth shattering here, just some neat little details players might have missed.

I was happy to see another nuts and bolts video from Croton in my YouTube feed today. I didn't discover his BotW content until a couple of years ago, but he rapidly became my go-to for finding out how the game worked.
