September 2023 -

Hello everyone and welcome back to another FOSS Runescape recap! Many of these servers are playable today, free forever, and more authentic than the current version by Jagex. The /c/Runescape mod team endorses every project in this list!

This month started off with discussions surrounding Jagex being sold again, but especially compared to last month, is rather quiet.

Darkan.org - 2012 Remake

Status: Fully playable!

Darkan is the oldest remake on this list - It's been developed for years by a veteran RSPS owner, with authentic dungeoneering support, multiple near-maxed players (on 1x exp rate), the first OSRS player to max, and more.

2011scape.com - 2011 Remake

Status: Playable Beta!

2011scape is a brand new remake, with major pieces of content being implemented constantly. This month, Tyluur from 2011scape started using ChatGPT 4's new AskTheCode feature that analyzes any public git repo to refactor 2011scape's obfuscated client!

2009scape.org - 2009 Remake

Status: Fully Playable!

With developers from 2004scape and OpenRSC, as well as dozens of contributors, 2009scape has an active playerbase and tons of content.

2004scape.org - 2004 Remake

Status: Pre-Alpha

2004scape breaks records in RS reverse engineering. It's the first RSPS with a real 2004 cache, has the most advanced RuneScript ever made, and a webclient. While other remakes on this list feel like original, 2004scape will feel like a leak.

2004scape has been adding a lot of quests recently. I am personally very excited for their launch!

OpenRSC - 2003 & 2001 Remake

Status: Fully Playable

OpenRSC is fully complete. It supports mobile, web, and botting, with a larger playerbase than official RSC did before shutdown!

OpenRSC is developing a secret tribute to the original game. That will come in next month's update post, so stay tuned for that!

The start of September's game jam and a bunch of small patches.

A few tweaks to Necromancy abilities and the first few reverts on the Hero Pass.

Lemmy: Jebrim - Thoughts on Lynx?

Jebrim:

I wish he didn’t do altscape I respect the nolifing he did though

Lemmy: Wdym altscape. Did you not use alts besides more agility?

Jebrim:

L

I’ve never used alts to help progress any of my accounts

I kicked the coleader of my clan for doing so

I was first to max and did so without any donations or xferring

Lemmy: People used alts to get 60 smithing

Jebrim:

You need to remember something

Up until like 9 years ago

Or 10 years ago

Using alts to help your account was against the rules

Jagex publicly changed their policy and stopped enforcing it

And the culture changed overnight where everyone suddenly started doing altscape

It wasn’t a thing before that

I tried to fight back against that tide

I’ve done multiple accounts at once but I never had them interact to help the other and I never counted multilogged xp towards my agility total

Lemmy: Wait, you didn't multilog agility? You have like 1.2B agility exp. They also used to ban 3rd party clients - Were you pro-vanilla?

Jebrim:

I was against Orion when it first came out yes

Very publicly

Matthew contacted me to try to convince me otherwise

Lemmy: Lmaoo

Jebrim:

I did almost all my agility on vanilla

I did 1b agility excluding multilogged xp. One after another.

I did 1.5b agility counting all the xp I don’t count

I have 140m agility in RSC

This was multilogged alongside the main goal but isn’t included in the total

I also have various deadman mode xp and king of the skill

These have boosted rates

I don’t count them either

Also got a 99 on a UIM

And did another 99 on a random RSPS back in the day

Don’t even remember which

2006scape maybe

Lemmy: Oh wow. 2006scape was a long time ago

Jebrim:

Most of my nolifing was a long time ago

I was rank 4 agility in 2008

100m xp

200m in 2009

Rank 3

Now I’m rank 1 because the former ranks 1 and 2 quit

After getting 200m agility, I decided to do it again

Lemmy: Lmfao

Jebrim:

First I did 1-99 agility at Brimhaven from just the obstacle xp

Only trading in tickets afterwards

Lemmy: Ok but why

Jebrim:

Why not

Achievement

Flex

Most people afk brim

You can’t afk it though if you’re leveraging obstacle xp

Lemmy: We have different definitions of afk

Jebrim:

I repeated obstacles between tickets

Got 18k-19k an hour

Didn’t have gloves

It was a noob account

RuneScape Classic was like 20k-30k an hour. That had more afk moments since it was lower priority with my clicks than the main game.

I still got 140m lol

Over many years

That’s the most unbotted xp in a skill in that game

By far

Overall, I’ve spent 17k hours of my irl time in agility

Doing it one after another was my way to track xp beyond 200m

Multilogging to artificially increase xp rates wouldn’t be a fair challenge time

But I did multilog agility just for fun

To have more clicks

One deadman season I did 5 accounts at once just to meme https://youtu.be/V3SbF-yAU-Y?si=pXXuWgC5xbgVHvHc

Lemmy: You could learn Madarin, Russian, French, Spanish, and Japanese in that time

Jebrim:

I became a software engineer during that time

I make good money now so it’s all fine

If anyone else has questions for Jebrim, feel free to ask and I'll forward them. Until then, enjoy!

Only a few days in and they're already sharing their actions upon feedback. Great sign for the future of Hero Pass imo.

So far, to me it doesn't seem all that grindy but they've still reduced the expected time for the daily tasks down. I do second that having the pass ui in the upgrades & extras section makes it tedious to reach when not following the announcement in chats.

83

Necromancy exp rate nerf post lv60, and hero pass going live. Let's experience how this is going to turn out.

84

Like last week, patch volume and impact is clearly slowing down as the skill is stabilizing.

'That Old Black Magic' becoming a special quest to show the different level requirements for the 'subquests' is a nice change. I was quite disappointed when i started that one, just to be level locked after only a few minutes.

Hello everyone and welcome back to another FOSS Runescape recap! Many of these servers are playable today, free forever, and more authentic than the current version by Jagex. The /c/Runescape mod team endorses every project in this list!

Darkan.org - 2012 Remake

Darkan is the oldest remake on this list - It's been developed for years by a veteran RSPS owner, with authentic dungeoneering support, multiple near-maxed players (on 1x exp rate), the first OSRS player to max, and more.

  • Started implementing Vinesweeper
  • The first OSRS player to max is now active in Darkan's Discord
  • 23 new bug fixes/features

2011scape.com - 2011 Remake

Status: Playable Beta!

2011scape is a brand new remake, with major pieces of content being implemented constantly. This month, Tyluur from 2011scape started using ChatGPT 4's new AskTheCode feature that analyzes any public git repo to refactor 2011scape's obfuscated client!

  • Added Restless Ghost & 4 new agility courses
  • Added full authentic account verification through account creation
  • Worked with Pazaz from 2004scape to fix DirectX
  • 38 new bug fixes/features

There's been some new faces in the 2011scape Discord helping out, so big thanks to that!

2009scape.org - 2009 Remake

Status: Fully Playable!

With developers from 2004scape and OpenRSC, as well as dozens of contributors, 2009scape has an active playerbase and tons of content.

2009scape's changes this month were a long time in the making, with hundreds of bugs fixed across the 4 updates. This is far from a normal, with the bug patches landing in after the massive updates, so we expect things to quiet down again after this month!

2004scape.org - 2004 Remake

Status: Pre-Alpha

2004scape breaks records in RS reverse engineering. It's the first with a real 2004 cache, has the most advanced RuneScript, and a webclient. It is the only one on this list that does not yet have a playable live server.

  • Merged their 100th PR! Quest/Goblin Diplomacy #100
  • Fishing Trawler engine work (Demo)
  • Added Crafting, Cooking, Fishing, & Woodcutting
  • Added Cook's Assistant, Imp Catcher, Druidic Ritual, Goblin Diplomacy, Treasure Trails (Clue Scrolls)
  • 111 new bug fixes/features

The 2004scape development team said they currently need to add combat (which is very different in Runescript than RSPS solutions), NPC modes, and hunt modes, after which they will be focused on adding content. Their estimate is the game will be playable in around 2 months!

OpenRSC - 2003 & 2001 Remake

Status: Fully Playable

OpenRSC is fully complete. It supports mobile, web, and botting, with a larger playerbase than official RSC did before shutdown!

  • OpenRSC celebrated their 5 year hosting anniversary!
  • RSC+ (RuneLite of RSC) had 10+ bug fixes & improvements
  • IdleRSC (Popular bot client) had 20+ script improvements
  • Website Live Player Maps were updated
  • The Forums and Wiki are now back online

The last Yak Track was an absolute grind fest for me. Happy to see that they're doing an attempt to improve upon it.

Do color me skeptical though. Don't want to drive Dailyscape pressure, yet they do add daily tasks again. Pass levels being 1:1 with skip coins? Smells like grind fest ratio is being maintained.

So in good faith, I hope that'll turn out better than before but will need to experience it.

87

Bunch of small tweaks here and there this week.

88

Some potential XP rate changes around rituals and random events in the future. Beyond that, it looks like the skill and combat changes are starting to stabilise with only smaller tweaks here and there.

89

Many of the earlier announced patches waiting for a patch slot have made the cut.

90
91

Looks like a good amount of improvements are in the pipeline. Especially the Super Necromancy Potion ingredients changing to Congealed Blood and Spirit Weed looks to be a welcome change. Also a bunch of improvements to ritual random events.

92

Plenty of Quality of Life updates for Necromancy along with bug fixes.

Those who already completed some of the City of Um area tasks may be able to claim another XP lamp as they can now be used on Necromancy too.

Public change tracker based on community feedback. Looks like a few QOL patches are on the way as well.

I clearly missed the lv30 alterations glyphs unlock, so the planned pop-up is definitely appreciated.

July 2023 -

Going forwards, I'm going to start keeping track of the progress as the month goes on, because usually lots of cool things get discussed in the Discord but is hard to find at the end of the month. But regardless, here's a quick highlight looking back:

Darkan.org - 2012 Remake

Darkan is the oldest remake on this list - It's been developed for years by a veteran RSPS owner, with authentic dungeoneering support, multiple near-maxed players (on 1x exp rate), and more.

  • 38 new bug fixes/features
  • The first OSRS player to max is now active in Darkan's Discord

2011scape.com - 2011 Remake

2011scape is a newer remake, so lots of the core and huge changes are always being done.

2009scape.org - 2009 Remake

With developers from 2004scape and OpenRSC, as well as dozens of contributors, 2009scape has an active playerbase and tons of content.

  • Huge release coming up next weekend, details will be in next month's recap
  • HD Support for mobile has started development, you can read the developer's blog here

2004scape.org - 2004 Remake

2004scape breaks records in RS reverse engineering. It's the first with a real 2004 cache, has the most advanced RuneScript, and a webclient. It is the only one on this list that does not yet have a playable live server.

OpenRSC - 2003 & 2001 Remake

OpenRSC is fully complete. It supports mobile, web, botting, and always has 20+ online their bot-free worlds.

  • API changes for better website/2009scape integration
  • IdleRSC, a popular bot client, has migrated to a new maintainer on Github, and seen various improvements
